Ferrari is upping the sport level of its ?entry-level? exotic for 2013. The California?s 4.3-liter V-8 engine will make an additional 30 CV, for a new total of 483 hp, and has 66 less pounds to move. The increase in power is due to new exhaust manifolds and tweaked engine software, and the reduction in weight comes from new fabrication techniques for the aluminum chassis, says Ferrari, which lowered the car?s zero-to-62-mph time from ?less than 4.0 seconds? to 3.8 seconds because of the changes.
The 2013 Ferrari California will also be available with a ?Handling Speciale? package, which is designed to minimize body roll and improve responses to driver inputs. Changes pair the optional Magnetorheological dampers with a ECU that is 50 percent faster and also include stiffer springs and a 10-percent-quicker steering ratio.
Also for 2013, Ferrari will offer more colors for the California, including two-tone finishes, three-layer paints, and modern re-interpretations of classic color schemes. If the changes above aren?t enough to reel you in, Ferrari wants to remind you that the California (as well as the 458 Italia and FF) is available with seven years of free standard maintenance.
